Ayurveda, which means "pure knowledge of life", is an
ancient Indian health science that has been practiced for more than
6,000 years. The emphasis is on the entirety where the body is not
separated from the soul.
All substance is created by five
elements which are the building blocks of the entire existence:
space, air, fire, water and earth. All living substance have three
"doshas" (constitutions, body types): Vata, Pitta and
Kapha which have been created through the five elements. These
Doshas are also considered to be the three original principles of
energy that balance all physical and psychological processes - Vata
stands for the movement, Pitta stands for transformation and Kapha
stands for structure
All Ayurvedic treatments aim to balance life force
in order to attain perfect health. Whereas western medicine tends to
concentrate on the common symptoms, Ayurveda has a more individual
approach. According to Ayurveda each individual is a unique human
being and therefore, nourishment, training, breathing exercises and
other factors in the individual's lifestyle are adapted to be the
most beneficial for that particular person. This is usually
accomplished through pulse-reading and consultation.
